Wilma would like to share her most recent ornament finishing, giving us more options.

Easy Ornament Finish

Trim the stitched piece to desired size. I like to do between 6 to 8 spaces beyond the stitching on 14ct.
Using a rotary cutter, cut backing (in this case, felt) to the same size as ornament.
Using a running stitch and a double strand of DMC, attach the front to the felt back. I added ribbon as I was doing the running stitch, putting in a double stitch on the ribbon. You could also attach the ribbon to the front of the finished ornament, using buttons...

For variety, you can add a piece of batting between the front and the back. This gives a nice padded finish, as I did on the snowman. Cut the batting the same size as the actual stitched area, so you don’t have to pierce through it with your running stitch.
I like to match the felt color with the DMC that I use for the running stitch as much as possible. That way, it is not very visible on the back of the finished ornament.
Last step is to fringe around the ornament. I usually do 2 or 3 rows...
